About the Role

The primary objective is to manage large‑scale multidisciplinary substation teams on mission‑critical projects, while actively driving sales and business development to support growth. The role must deliver technically correct projects on time, meet profit targets, promote cross‑selling, and liaise with senior directors. As Project Director, you will assume full responsibility for technical, programme, and commercial performance across all disciplines under the lead‑consultant role, ensuring coordination, quality, and profitability. You will be accountable for monthly job‑costing reports, profit and sales figures, and will prepare quarterly board reports. Business development duties include maintaining client contacts, negotiating fee bases and draw‑down schedules, leading presentations for new projects, and coordinating all disciplines. You will manage invoicing, pursue outstanding debts, progress sales opportunities, handle complaints, conduct after‑sales reviews, and support marketing and corporate events. General duties encompass resource management, technical compliance, signing off reports and deliverables, attending client meetings, and ensuring deadlines are met. You will record scope changes, support post‑contract reviews, mentor team members, oversee training, and uphold ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality management systems. • Lead multidisciplinary substation projects, ensuring technical quality, schedule adherence, and profitability. • Oversee monthly job‑costing, profit and sales reporting, and deliver quarterly board updates. • Build and maintain client relationships, negotiate fees and draw‑down schedules, and lead new‑project presentations. • Drive business development by pursuing sales opportunities, managing invoicing, and achieving debt‑recovery targets. • Manage project resources, approve deliverables, and enforce ISO 9001/ISO 14001 quality standards. • Recruit, train, and mentor team members while conducting technical audits and succession planning.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate enjoys collaborative, interdisciplinary work, can handle pressure and tight deadlines, and maintains the highest level of technical excellence. Candidates must hold a BEng, MSc, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related field, with at least ten years of high‑voltage switchyard and substation design experience (up to 765 kV preferred). Additional expectations include project‑management skills, proficiency with MS Office, a positive professional attitude, and progress toward Chartered status. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a minimum of fifteen years of related experience, and at least seven years of project‑management experience. Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project is essential, along with demonstrated leadership, business‑development, and strategic‑planning abilities, and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture. • Hold a BEng/MSc in Electrical or Building Services Engineering with ≥10 years of high‑voltage substation design experience. • Possess ≥15 years overall engineering experience, ≥7 years project‑management experience, and strong leadership and strategic‑planning skills. • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and engineering design analysis software.
