About the Role

The Business Class Manager oversees operations of Business Class teams, handling staff management, cultivating a quality‑focused culture, assisting business development, and partnering with national, regional, and area leads to drive technical execution, professional services, and quality initiatives. This role requires deep knowledge of HDR’s service breadth and the ability to package that expertise into client‑focused solutions while delegating responsibilities appropriately. • Lead staff development, career planning, hiring justification, utilization and performance management. • Review pre‑contract proposals, fee development, negotiations, contract signing and project execution. • Manage budgets focused on billability, overhead, training and coordination with Professional Services. • Conduct project reviews for scope, schedule, fee, profitability and risk management. • Allocate marketing budgets for client development, conferences, presentations and attendance. • Drive a culture of quality through proactive project management and QMS documentation. • Support recruitment, onboarding, retention and recognition of Business Class staff. • Provide hands‑on mentoring to bridge staff capabilities with client requirements and ensure technical supervision. • Coordinate staff assignments with Market Sector, Cross‑Sector and Technical Services leads. • Lead Business Class collaboration with other groups and advance strategic plan initiatives. • Develop and implement Area Business Class team organization. • Serve as Principal‑in‑Charge, Project Sponsor or Project Manager on select projects.

What You Bring

• Preferred: Professional Engineer license, experience with strategic growth initiatives, deep knowledge of HDR services, staff management, collaborative teamwork and strong communication skills. • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field, 10+ years experience, commitment to quality and HDR values, professional registration, experience managing diverse teams, cooperative work with business leaders, and active participation in the employee‑owned culture.
