About the Role

The Policy & Strategy Manager, West at Fervo Energy leads the development and execution of state‑level policy and regulatory initiatives across Western states. Reporting to the Director of Government Affairs & Policy, the role oversees a team of state policy leads and ensures that on‑the‑ground activities align with the company’s commercial objectives and corporate priorities. In this high‑visibility position, the manager acts as a subject‑matter expert on power sector regulation, energy markets, transmission planning, natural resource leasing, and economic development, engaging both internal and external stakeholders. Collaboration spans executive leadership and functional teams in origination, strategy, development, land, and communications to advance Fervo’s strategic goals. The role requires a deep understanding of state utility regulation and regional energy systems, along with a bipartisan, collaborative approach to policy advocacy. The manager will also mentor and develop state policy leads, manage external lobbyists and consultants, and build strong relationships with policymakers, NGOs, trade associations, and senior government officials. • Define and execute state‑level policy priorities and advocacy strategies across Western states. • Develop region‑specific policy proposals and high‑quality advocacy materials. • Maintain deep expertise in state utility regulation and regional energy systems. • Lead, mentor, and manage state policy leads to ensure alignment with corporate priorities. • Build and maintain relationships with state policymakers, NGOs, trade associations, and senior officials. • Oversee external lobbyists and consultants to coordinate regional resources. • Partner with internal teams to educate stakeholders on regulatory developments and shape company policy positions.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least seven years of experience in state‑level energy policy or related fields, a proven record of delivering policy outcomes, and strong communication and people‑management skills. The position involves up to 50 % travel and offers hybrid work flexibility for candidates based in Houston, Oakland, Salt Lake City, or Golden. • Possess 7+ years of experience in state‑level energy policy, utility regulation, or legislative policymaking. • Demonstrated track record of securing meaningful energy policy outcomes. • Deep understanding of Western power sector operations, market design, and political environments. • Ability to lead high‑stakes engagements with senior government officials and diverse stakeholder groups. • Experience in people management and multi‑stakeholder policy campaigns. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating regulatory concepts. • Ability to travel up to 50 % and work collaboratively across functions. • Intellectual curiosity, diplomacy, adaptability, and a sense of humor. • Preferred: working knowledge of analytical tools for electric resource planning and reliability studies. • Preferred: experience in subsurface or electricity project development. • Preferred: established relationships with electric sector policy stakeholders in Western states, especially California.

Benefits

Compensation includes a salary ranging from $145,000 to $210,000, depending on location and experience, plus a comprehensive benefits suite such as medical, dental, vision, life, disability, flexible PTO, parental leave, stock options, bonus incentives, and a 401(k) match.
