Tailings / Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

You will join a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists and modellers delivering engineering solutions for mining and civil projects worldwide, drawing on expertise in geotechnical and civil engineering. The role involves providing technical input across a range of specialised areas while collaborating with colleagues across the organization. You will support project managers by overseeing your own tasks, preparing documentation and estimates, and travelling to client sites both in the UK and internationally, often requiring overnight stays. Building and maintaining strong client relationships, representing WSP on‑site, and liaising with the Mining Team network are key parts of the job. You will also mentor graduate engineers, assist with business‑development proposals and uphold WSP’s values, health‑and‑safety and equality policies. • Deliver specialised engineering input for tailings, heap leach, water impoundments, waste rock dumps, soil improvement and geosynthetic design. • Produce technical reports, design drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and cost estimates. • Manage assigned project tasks, monitoring time, budget and quality on behalf of project managers. • Travel domestically and internationally, including overnight assignments, to support client sites. • Cultivate and maintain client relationships, acting as WSP’s on‑site representative. • Coordinate with national and international Mining Team networks and attend relevant meetings. • Mentor and coach graduate engineers within the team. • Contribute to business development by drafting technical proposals. • Uphold WSP’s Code of Conduct, health & safety standards and Equality Policy. • Participate in inclusive employee resource groups and receive training, mentoring and chartership support.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate holds a degree in civil, geotechnical or engineering geology with a strong focus on soil mechanics, is familiar with national and international design guidelines, and has experience in mining waste disposal and geotechnical design.
