About the Role

As a member of Waste Management’s HR organization, the HR Manager delivers world‑class strategic people solutions and tactical support to internal manager clients. The role focuses on building trust, employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, development and workforce efficiency for a diverse, fast‑paced enterprise. Based in Charlotte, NC, the individual contributor will support approximately 520 employees across 20 sites in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, requiring 40–50 % travel. The manager identifies and activates people solutions that align with business objectives, accurately diagnosing organizational issues and implementing action plans. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating HR functions, leading talent and succession planning, delivering diversity and inclusion initiatives, and coaching managers across multiple departments. The role also partners with Centers of Expertise to execute HR strategies, leads projects, and provides legal compliance guidance. Supervisory duties involve managing People Advisors and other support staff, with direct oversight of at least one full‑time employee. The manager hires, develops, and coaches members of the People Organization, ensuring high‑impact written and oral communications to senior leadership. • Provide strategic and tactical HR solutions to 520 employees across 20 sites in NC, SC, and GA. • Lead talent management, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives. • Coach and advise managers on employee relations, performance, and compliance matters. • Partner with Centers of Expertise to execute HR programs, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and drive organizational health. • Manage HR projects, process improvements, and budget analysis. • Supervise People Advisors and support staff within the HR department.

What You Bring

Qualified candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Labor Relations, HR Management, Psychology or a related field (or a high school diploma with four years relevant experience) and at least five years’ experience managing HR systems, processes, programs and professionals. Preferred credentials include SPHR certification and demonstrated union and non‑union experience, as well as prior involvement in M&A activities. Required skills encompass strategic thinking, strong analytical and diagnostic abilities, consultative relationship building, talent management, and excellent verbal and written communication. The position requires 10–40 % travel within the South Atlantic footprint and occasional exposure to field environments such as dirt, odors, noise and weather extremes. Physical demands are minimal, involving standard office tasks and occasional handling of objects under 30 lb. The work setting is primarily an office, with travel to field operating units as needed. Travel by air for business requires a REAL ID or an approved TSA alternative; candidates must possess or be willing to obtain this credential. The requirement applies to any federal property access or airline travel associated with the role. • Require bachelor’s degree in HR‑related field (or equivalent) and 5+ years HR management experience; SPHR preferred. • Must have union and non‑union experience, M&A exposure, and strong analytical and communication skills. • Travel 40‑50% of the time within the South Atlantic region; based in Charlotte, NC.
