About the Role

The Traction Power Intern position in Philadelphia offers a hands‑on opportunity to contribute to the design and analysis of DC and AC traction power systems for railways and light‑rail transit. Working closely with experienced engineers, the intern will engage in real‑world projects, gaining practical knowledge in a dynamic, technically challenging environment. • Assist in designing and analyzing traction power distribution systems, including substations, overhead catenary, and third‑rail systems • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts • Perform calculations for voltage drop, current flow, and overall power system performance • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and construction documentation • Conduct field inspections and site visits to collect data and monitor construction activities • Support testing and commissioning of traction power equipment • Aid in maintenance, troubleshooting, and creation of as‑built drawings for existing systems • Develop proficiency with industry‑standard software and engineering tools • Learn operation and maintenance procedures for railway and transit systems • Enhance communication, teamwork, and professional networking skills

What You Bring

• Gain practical experience in traction power system design and analysis • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least one year of study completed • Eligibility for candidates with a completed Bachelor’s degree planning to continue to a Master’s program • Basic understanding of electrical power systems and circuit analysis • Familiarity with AC and DC power concepts and interest in railway or transit systems • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to read technical drawings • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment • Valid driver’s license (may be required for site visits) and AutoCAD familiarity is a plus
