About the Role
The role sits within Southern Water’s Health, Safety, Security and Wellbeing team and is responsible for protecting people, assets and operations across the Sussex region. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will translate security legislation into practical solutions and collaborate with operational teams, contractors and external partners to manage security risks and keep critical sites secure. The position offers the opportunity to build relationships, work autonomously and introduce improvements to security delivery in a complex organisation. You will support the implementation of Southern Water’s Protective Security Strategy, conduct risk assessments and investigations, and produce clear reports. You will advise operational teams at short notice, support security upgrades, and liaise with police, regulators and specialist partners, while promoting a positive security culture through awareness activities. • Support delivery of Southern Water’s Protective Security Strategy in the Sussex region. • Build trusted relationships with internal teams, contractors and external agencies. • Provide clear, practical security advice to operational teams, often on short notice. • Conduct security risk assessments and investigations, producing accurate reports. • Understand and apply the Operational Requirement process. • Support security upgrades and improvement projects to meet company standards. • Liaise with police, regulators and specialist security partners as needed. • Promote a positive security culture through awareness activities and communication. • Maintain a solutions‑focused approach and enthusiasm for improvement.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate has strong experience in a security or protective security role, proven stakeholder‑management skills and a track record of risk assessment and investigation. Excellent written and verbal communication, a self‑starter attitude and the ability to work independently are essential, as is the ability to obtain a Security Check (SC) clearance and a valid UK driving licence. Security‑related qualifications, experience in regulated or critical infrastructure, and familiarity with police or government agencies are desirable. • Hold strong security or protective security experience and manage diverse stakeholders. • Communicate confidently in writing and face‑to‑face. • Obtain or hold Security Check (SC) national security vetting. • Hold a valid UK driving licence. • Desirable: Possess security‑related qualifications or professional membership (e.g., Security Institute, ASIS). • Desirable: Experience in regulated or critical infrastructure environments. • Desirable: Experience working with police, government bodies or specialist security agencies. • Desirable: Knowledge of risk management frameworks and security standards.
