Job Highlights
About the Role
In this role the welder selects appropriate pipe sizes and materials, plans layouts and welding procedures, and utilizes a variety of arc and gas welding techniques. Tasks include positioning, aligning, and fitting components in multiple orientations, as well as handling material transport, equipment setup, and minor tool maintenance while adhering to safety and project rules. • Select pipe type, size, and related materials per specifications. • Utilize various welding processes such as GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, flux‑cored, submerged, and shielded metal arc. • Lay out, position, align, and fit components in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. • Bolt, clamp, and weld metal components using arc and gas welding equipment. • Connect welding unit cables to set amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse as required. • Load appropriate electrode and insert into holder or feed consumable wire through gun. • Start power supply to produce electric current for welding. • Strike arc to melt and deposit metal, joining workpiece edges. • Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining arc length, speed, and bead quality. • Apply filler rod when needed to supply weld metal. • Clean or degrease weld joint and workplace using brush, grinder, or chemical bath. • Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes as necessary. • Remove excess or defective weld material, slag, and spatter using appropriate tools. • Cut metal plates or structural shapes as required. • Examine weld bead size and other specifications for compliance. • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation. • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment. • Wear respiratory protection when required. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.

What You Bring
The position is for a certified tube welder who is proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding processes and may be required to meet x‑ray quality standards. The welder assembles fabricated, cast, and forged components to create structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings, and piping according to blueprints and metallurgy specifications. Candidates must work within precise accuracy limits, make decisions based on measurable criteria, and apply basic mathematics to solve problems. They should be able to plan work, select proper tools, and visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings, detecting differences in size, shape, and form. The position requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting, with occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing of up to 35 pounds. Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering, performed constantly or frequently depending on the task. • Plan layouts, assembly, and welding applying geometry and metal properties knowledge. • Preheat work piece with hand torch or heating furnace. • Pass employer performance or certification tests.
