About the Role

The Automation Lead will be based in Decatur, AL, and will own site‑level automation and electrical functions for a state‑of‑the‑art steel manufacturing facility. The role involves building and leading an automation team, integrating robotics into custom manufacturing cells, and driving equipment productivity. Safety is the most important priority at Nucor; candidates must be able to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. • Recruit and build a diverse, high‑performing automation team. • Train, develop, and coach team members on automation technologies. • Lead multimillion‑dollar capital investment projects for automation. • Attend supplier training for automation, robotics, and equipment. • Integrate ABB robots into custom‑designed manufacturing cells. • Maximize equipment productivity through advanced controls and robotics.

What You Bring

Minimum qualifications include a STEM bachelor’s degree (or associate degree with additional experience, or six years of related experience), a diverse background in PLCs, HMIs, and industrial controls, demonstrated leadership presence, and willingness to travel for training and site visits. Preferred qualifications include prior leadership experience and hands‑on experience with Siemens and Allen‑Bradley PLCs, ABB robots, Ignition SCADA, and working in greenfield environments. • Own site‑level automation and electrical functions at the Decatur facility. • Demonstrate leadership, safety advocacy, and ability to travel to sites and training. • Hold a STEM degree (or equivalent experience) and solid PLC/HMI/industrial control background. • Prefer experience with Siemens and Allen‑Bradley PLCs, Ignition SCADA, and greenfield environments.
