About the Role

WSP is seeking a Communications and Public Involvement Manager to support energy and infrastructure projects across San Diego and Southern California. The role is part of the Communications Advisory Services Practice and contributes to meeting client objectives and solving challenges. In this position, you will act as a key consultant on infrastructure projects, developing and implementing public outreach strategies for energy and sanitation initiatives. You will engage directly with communities, create strategic messaging, and provide on‑site support at events, open houses, and construction sites, while also coordinating virtual meetings and handling public inquiries. You will oversee content creation across multiple channels, manage social media outreach plans, monitor media coverage, and develop metrics to assess campaign effectiveness. Close collaboration with project teams and clients will ensure alignment of communications with client priorities, and you will contribute to business development through strong relationship building. • Serve as primary communications consultant for infrastructure projects, including energy and sanitation. • Design and execute public outreach strategies to gather community feedback. • Act as liaison between project teams and the community, delivering clear messaging on project benefits and impacts. • Facilitate in‑person and virtual public meetings, events, and tabling sessions. • Manage social media outreach plans and create content for websites, presentations, and media releases. • Monitor media coverage, archive information, and escalates issues as needed. • Develop performance metrics to evaluate outreach effectiveness. • Coordinate deliverables with project schedules and align messaging with client priorities. • Build strong relationships with technical teams, clients, and local agencies to support business development.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Politics, Planning or a related field and brings 7–10 years of communications and public involvement experience, especially on infrastructure projects. Required skills include outstanding oral and written communication, superior organizational abilities, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and the capacity to translate technical information for public consumption and de‑escalate community concerns. Preferred qualifications include expertise in public involvement best practices, experience with energy projects, established relationships with local public agencies, and prior team or blended‑team management. Candidates who are based in San Diego are especially encouraged to apply. • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Politics, Planning or related field and 7‑10 years of relevant experience. • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information into clear public‑facing content. • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with high attention to detail. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and experience working on cross‑disciplinary infrastructure teams. • Preferred: expertise in public involvement best practices and experience with energy projects. • Preferred: established relationships with local public‑agency staff and experience managing blended teams.
