About the Role

The Inside Sales Representative at R.P. Lumber in Jacksonville, IL assists customers and contractors by providing quotes and product information through in‑person, phone, email, and website channels while upholding the company’s high standards of customer service. • Respond to customer inquiries about product selection, orders, pricing, deliveries, installations, and provide follow‑ups. • Listen to and resolve customer service complaints; involve Retail or General Manager when needed. • Code and input orders, pricing, and data into POS system, ensuring accurate invoices, work orders, and sales tickets. • Operate and balance the cash register daily. • Research credits, returns, and delinquent payments. • Assist customers with special‑order products using supplier catalog information. • Work with credit department to obtain credit info and help collect delinquent accounts. • Maintain inventory, product displays, and pricing labels, including stocking, facing, straightening, and cleaning showroom areas. • Transport merchandise for customer pickup or delivery. • Minimize inventory shrinkage and protect the store from shoplifting and internal theft. • Collaborate with Outside Sales Representatives to address order and product inquiries. • Develop estimating skills for material take‑offs on construction projects. • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and contractors. • Increase knowledge of sales techniques and product/industry information through training. • Follow safety procedures, attend safety meetings, and suggest improvements. • Perform additional duties such as cutting glass or Plexiglas, mixing paint, cutting keys, etc., as assigned. • Work in showroom/warehouse environments and outdoor locations with varying temperature and weather.

The role requires strong product knowledge, adherence to sales and reporting procedures, and a focus on safety, accountability, and cleanliness, including proper merchandising of inventory. Candidates should hold a high school diploma or GED, preferably have one year of related experience, possess a valid driver’s license, be highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays. They must also pass pre‑employment drug, background, and driver‑history screenings. Physical duties involve frequent standing, walking, and use of hands, with the ability to lift 10‑25 lb regularly and up to 50‑100 lb occasionally, as well as bending, stooping, and working in showroom, warehouse, and outdoor environments with varying temperatures. • Prior sales experience or building‑materials knowledge (preferred but not required). • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for listening to customers and contractors. • Ability to use the Bistrack POS system, Microsoft Word and Excel, and other software at an intermediate level. • Strong organizational, math, and computer abilities. • Ability to provide professional customer service and work collaboratively in a team. • High school diploma or GED. • One year of related work experience preferred. • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (Class E for Missouri locations). • Highly organized with strong attention to detail. • Pass pre‑employment drug test, background check, and driver history check. • Frequent use of hands for handling, reaching, talking, and listening. • Must stand and walk most of the day. • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift/move 10‑25 lb regularly and up to 50‑100 lb occasionally.
