About the Role
The Managing Quantity Surveyor – Environment will join Galliford Try's high‑performance team in Nottinghamshire, working on the Severn Trent Water Framework across clean and wastewater treatment schemes. The role involves close collaboration with Commercial and Operational leads to drive commercial performance and achieve budgeted financial goals while embedding robust risk management. You will develop and empower the commercial team, addressing development and retention challenges, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork. By inspiring and motivating staff, you will help maintain high service quality and profitability. Key responsibilities include meticulous cost control, contract and change management, and ensuring a cash‑positive position. You will review and monitor costs, manage change events, produce and submit monthly client applications, and achieve targets for cash, profit, return on capital, and sales. Working with the Commercial Team and Project leads, you will ensure appropriate project controls across all disciplines, prepare monthly commercial reports for the board, and highlight any issues or risks. You will also act as a vital link in the supply chain, building stakeholder relationships, supporting repeat business opportunities, and collaborating with central service teams. • Drive commercial performance of water treatment projects, meeting budget and risk targets. • Lead, develop, and retain the commercial team, fostering continuous improvement. • Control costs, manage contracts/changes, and submit monthly client applications. • Prepare monthly commercial reports (CVR, forecasts, cash/WIP) for senior management. • Build stakeholder relationships to secure repeat business and support change management. • Ensure health and safety standards and promote a collaborative HSE culture.

What You Bring
The role requires outstanding health and safety stewardship, promoting a safe, collaborative environment aligned with Galliford Try's HSE culture. You must hold a professional qualification such as MCIOB or MRICS, have construction/engineering experience (highways, rail, water, aviation), and be well‑versed in standard forms of contract, especially the NEC3/4 suite. • Professional qualification (MCIOB or MRICS) with construction/engineering experience. • Expertise in NEC3/4 contracts and first‑principles estimating. • Proficient in Excel, Word, CEMAR, Oracle; CSCS holder or supported for site work. • Strong communication, ethical standards, and commitment to customer service.
