About the Role

This is not a dashboard‑only role; the engineer will ship end‑to‑end integrations into production, handling authentication, incremental loads, failure handling, monitoring, alerting, and documentation. Responsibilities include defining data contracts, ensuring reliability, and delivering automation that supports AI‑enabled workflows. The focus is on creating repeatable, production‑ready pipelines rather than merely maintaining existing pipelines. Success in the role is measured by building three or more production integrations into the central repository, delivering at least one data‑to‑application outcome adopted by the business, and establishing monitoring, alerting, and documentation for supportability. Additional expectations include creating repeatable patterns for structured extraction and AI automation with proper QA and evaluation processes. • Design, build, and maintain production‑scale integrations (API, database, file‑based, event‑driven) into a central repository. • Develop and support a centralized data platform for analytics, internal apps, and AI/LLM‑enabled workflows. • Implement data normalization, metadata standards, and data contracts for reliable reuse. • Translate business requirements into scalable automation and AI‑assisted solutions. • Ensure reliability with monitoring, alerting, observability, validation, retries, idempotency, and backfills. • Contribute to architecture and engineering standards for integration patterns and AI‑ready data access. • Build internal tools (web apps, APIs, utilities) enabling teams to discover, search, and operationalize data. • Enable AI/LLM use cases such as semantic search, summarization, classification, and structured extraction with human‑in‑the‑loop controls. • Design low‑latency data access patterns (views, APIs, query endpoints) for applications and governed analytics. • Evaluate and recommend tools/platforms based on outcomes and maintainability. • Debug integration, storage, and application issues; produce clear documentation, data lineage, contracts, and runbooks. • Develop production‑grade integrations with secure authentication, incremental loads, and observability. • Design data platforms supporting reporting, APIs, applications, and AI agents across construction, engineering, or manufacturing domains.

What You Bring

The position sits within a construction delivery organization, demanding comfort with real‑world, project‑based data shaped by schedules, budgets, contracts, field workflows, and legacy systems. Candidates with experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or other asset‑heavy industries are especially well‑suited. The role blends data engineering, systems integration, automation, and business‑facing application development. The role is on‑site in Chicago, Illinois, requiring five days a week in the office with no remote or hybrid option. Candidates must be prepared to work directly with construction professionals, analysts, and technologists to deliver reliable data systems and the tools that make that data usable across the business. Minimum qualifications include a BA/BS in Computer Science or a related field and four years of experience in data engineering, systems integration, or backend automation, along with strong SQL and Python skills. Preferred experience covers API and ETL/ELT workflows, monitoring and alerting, AI/LLM integration, software engineering best practices, and familiarity with construction‑related data contexts. The role also values independent operation, data platform design, orchestration frameworks, and the ability to work with non‑technical stakeholders. • Own end‑to‑end data pipelines: ingestion, normalization, storage, and access (BI, APIs, applications, agents).
