About the Role

ECS is actively hiring Senior Geotechnical Engineers to lead major infrastructure and transportation initiatives across North Carolina. This senior role is designed for a technical leader who can balance complex engineering design with high‑level client management for DOT and other large‑scale infrastructure programs. The position supports multidisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and designers on geotechnical and construction‑materials testing projects, directs design of embankments, retaining structures, and foundations using MicroStation and OpenRoads, and oversees geotechnical field explorations such as drilling and test pits. The senior engineer serves as the primary point of contact for DOT project managers and external stakeholders, manages project budgets and resource allocation, leads business‑development efforts, and ensures all technical deliverables and field operations meet 100 % compliance with NCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards. • Lead multidisciplinary teams on geotechnical and construction‑materials testing projects. • Design embankments, retaining structures, subgrade stabilization, and deep/shallow foundations using MicroStation and OpenRoads. • Plan and oversee geotechnical field explorations, including drilling, test pits, and inspections. • Serve as primary liaison for DOT project managers and external stakeholders, ensuring technical requirements and deadlines are met. • Develop and seal geotechnical engineering reports and design packages. • Manage project budgets and allocate resources to deliver infrastructure deliverables on time. • Identify regional business opportunities and lead the technical portion of proposal submissions. • Cultivate relationships with DOT officials, municipal agencies, and Tier 1 prime consultants to maintain ECS as a preferred partner. • Ensure all deliverables and field operations comply with NCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering and possess a Professional Engineer license (or Professional Geologist where applicable). A minimum of five years’ experience in geotechnical and transportation engineering, expertise in the DOT Geotechnical Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD, and relevant software, strong analytical and communication skills, and a valid driver’s license are required. • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering. • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Professional Geologist (PG) acceptable in some states. • Minimum five years of experience in geotechnical and transportation engineering with design, project management, and technical leadership. • Expertise in DOT Geotechnical Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD specifications, and software such as gINT, LPile, APile, MSEW, FB‑Pier, GRLWEAP. • Proficiency in MicroStation preferred. • Proven track record of leading technical reviews and serving as a senior technical reviewer. • Strong analytical, report‑writing, and communication skills with demonstrated initiative and leadership. • Valid driver’s license for travel.
