About the Role
As an Associate Principal, Sports & Recreation, you will work alongside architects, planners, designers, and technical experts to deliver complex projects, leveraging innovative technologies and sustainability principles to shape the built environment. • Lead creative concepts and solutions for complex sports and recreation projects. • Meet directly with owners/clients to analyze goals and develop architectural concepts. • Produce presentation drawings, models, and narratives. • Provide senior leadership across all design disciplines. • Represent HDR in business development and marketing to prospective owners/clients. • Coordinate interdisciplinary teams throughout all project phases to meet program needs. • Partner with the Director of Sports & Recreation on market sector initiatives. • Build relationships with senior client leadership and manage client development. • Identify, pursue, and champion new project opportunities aligned with sector strategy. • Assess market conditions and define business approaches to win commissions. • Collaborate with Sports & Recreation Principals to drive client development and pursuits. • Participate in industry associations and represent the company in community organizations. • Develop relationships with peers in other consulting firms. • Seek ways to improve practice performance and mentor junior staff. • Assist in recruiting prospective employees.

What You Bring
• Master’s degree in Architecture (preferred). • At least 10 years of design leadership experience (preferred). • Experience with healthcare, education, civic, science, or research facilities (preferred). • Interest or experience in sustainable design/LEED (preferred). • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, 3‑D Studio Max, Rhino, and Grasshopper (preferred). • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field (required). • Minimum 10 years of professional experience (required). • Licensed (Registered) Architect (required). • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project) (required). • Strong written and verbal communication skills (required). • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities (required). • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and related tools (required). • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills (required). • Strong knowledge of building codes and planning (required). • Commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned, inclusive culture (required).
