About the Role
The Principal Hydrogeologist is responsible for direction of groundwater programs for active and closed landfills and management of the Company’s Superfund and remedial portfolio, including site‑specific reserve budgets. The incumbent will manage internal and external stakeholders and serve on technical and legal committees. Leads environmental monitoring of geologic and hydrogeologic issues, directs regulatory advocacy, and provides senior leadership for environmental managers and consultants in responding to inspections and regulatory notifications. Manages site‑specific remedial and Superfund reserve budgets, prepares strategic communications for senior leadership, and coordinates responses to third‑party audits. Oversees project management for high‑impact RCRA/CERCLA cleanups, implements landfill groundwater monitoring programs, and establishes sampling and analysis protocols, statistics, and geochemistry. Directs company responses to state and federal rulemaking, partners with procurement for contracts, and establishes protocols for emerging contaminants. Manages the Groundwater and Leachate Database, participates in due‑diligence reviews, develops conceptual site models, assists public affairs, participates in industry groups, supports post‑closure management, and represents the company at regulatory and public forums.

What You Bring
Requires a Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist/Hydrogeologist license (preferred) and strong leadership skills to influence and motivate cross‑functional teams, external customers, and vendors. Must communicate effectively with stakeholders, lead multi‑disciplinary technical teams, and develop technical responses for environmental litigation. Should be able to interpret business documents, technical procedures, and regulations, and understand accounting guidance for environmental liability reserves. Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering or related field (advanced degree preferred) and at least 10 years of experience with CERCLA and RCRA cleanups, solid waste facility monitoring, or related environmental work. Position is a hybrid role based at the Phoenix, AZ headquarters with relocation assistance available.
