About the Role

Lays out, aligns, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings, and pipe, according to blueprints and metallurgy. • Select type and size of pipe or related materials per specifications. • Use various welding processes: GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, Submerged Arc, SMAW. • Layout, position, align, and fit components in various positions. • Bolt, clamp, and weld metal components of piping systems, plates, pipes, tubes, or structural shapes using arc and gas welding equipment; weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions; tack weld assemblies. • Connect cable from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse as specified. • Obtain specified electrode and insert into holder or thread consumable electrode wire through welding gun. • Start power supply to produce electric current. • Strike arc to generate heat, melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece, joining edges. • Manually guide electrode/gun along weld line, maintaining arc length, speed, and movement to achieve required fusion depth and bead. • Apply filler rod manually as needed. • Clean or degrease weld joint or workplace using wire brush, grinder, or chemical bath. • Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes. • Remove excess weld, defective material, slag, and spatter using carbon arc gouge, scraper, grinder, or power chipper. • Cut metal plates or structural shapes. • Examine weld for bead size and specifications. • Load, transport, and unload material, tools, equipment, and supplies. • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and workpieces during installation. • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment. • Use respiratory protection as required. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules; perform other duties as required. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Apply basic mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.

What You Bring

May require a high school diploma or equivalent with prior experience; possesses knowledge of common concepts, practices, and procedures within the field, works under immediate supervision, relies on instructions and pre‑established guidelines, and typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The role involves standing (50%), walking (20%), and sitting (30%); lifting and carrying up to 35 lb, occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and frequent reaching, handling, and fingering. • Plan layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, metal properties, shrinkage, and techniques. • Preheat work piece using hand torch or heating furnace. • Pass employer performance or certification tests; perform only certified procedures.
