About the Role
Oversees and directs foremen/journeyman pipefitters to ensure daily tasks are carried out safely, timely, and efficiently. Must be able to read isometric drawings and determine location, orientation, size, and diameter of piping or equipment. Duties include layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of piping systems, supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and production processes. • Select type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications. • Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions. • Plan sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers. • Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine. • Thread pipe using threading machine. • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe‑bending tools and machine. • Mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe. • Assemble and install a variety of metal or non‑metal pipes and pipe fittings, using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools. • Secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools. • Install and maintain refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping. • Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure and observing gauges. • Weld pipe supports to structural steel members. • Observe production machines to detect malfunctions and operate machinery to verify repair. • Load, transport and unload material, tools, equipment and supplies. • Assist in lifting, positioning and securing material and work pieces during installation. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. • Use respiratory protection as required. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.

What You Bring
A high school diploma or equivalent, plus relevant experience, is typically required. Candidates should possess knowledge of industry concepts, practices, and procedures, and rely on established guidelines to perform job functions. They will plan their own work, delegate tasks to foremen/journeyman pipefitters, and ensure tasks are completed safely, on time, and efficiently. The role generally reports to a site manager. Physical requirements involve strength for standing, walking, sitting, lifting and carrying up to 50 lb, and pushing or pulling 70 ft‑lb. The job may also require frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering activities.
