About the Role

The Sr. Project Engineer I role oversees project controls and management for multi‑discipline EPC projects, providing direct support to a senior engineer in quantity monitoring, contract administration, planning, procurement, and reporting. The position requires extensive interaction with clients, engineering teams, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project management to keep the project on schedule and within scope. It is a traveling role based anywhere in the U.S., with up to 90 % travel and typical on‑site assignments of 8‑18 months, supported by per diem, mobilization assistance, and a company vehicle or allowance. In this role the engineer will represent the company professionally in all client interactions, produce required weekly and monthly reports, and champion both corporate and site‑specific safety plans. Responsibilities include creating quantity‑calculation formulas, developing work plans, managing labor timesheets, leading safety meetings, tracking material deliveries, and coordinating work groups on‑site. The engineer will also perform complex engineering calculations, direct field engineers in data preparation, oversee procurement and subcontract administration, maintain comprehensive project records, and control productivity, scheduling, risk, and cost forecasting. The position provides supervisory leadership for up to 100 personnel, including field engineers, office staff, document control, schedulers, procurement, and warehouse teams. The engineer will mentor direct reports, delegate tasks, and ensure timely completion of project deliverables while acting as the primary company representative in the project manager’s absence. • Provide weekly and monthly contract‑required client reports. • Champion corporate safety plan and develop site‑specific safety procedures. • Create quantity‑calculation formulas to verify installed material percentages. • Develop and review work plans and work packages. • Manage daily labor timesheets and ensure accurate approvals. • Lead job‑site safety reviews, toolbox meetings, and safety training sessions. • Track material deliveries and produce procurement status reports. • Plan, schedule, and coordinate on‑site work groups. • Perform complex engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations. • Direct field engineers in preparing data for submittals to customers, vendors, and agencies. • Review purchase orders, subcontract documents, and generate material takeoffs from construction drawings. • Oversee procurement and subcontract administration functions from the home office. • Supervise subcontractor operations and ensure quality documentation is completed on time. • Maintain comprehensive project records, including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, and correspondence. • Create and monitor project controls such as productivity tracking, risk and opportunity logs, and equipment schedules. • Maintain and update the master project schedule and drive planning cycles (6‑week, 3‑week, 1‑week). • Generate change orders and as‑built data for project manager review. • Assist the project manager with accounting, job cost, and work‑in‑progress updates. • Lead budgeting by converting estimates to standard phase codes. • Alert project manager to trends in labor, material, subcontractor, and equipment costs. • Forecast full‑project costs and establish cash‑flow curves to ensure positive cash flow. • Prepare schedule of values and invoices for customer billing. • Lead and mentor a crew of up to 100 personnel, including field engineers and office staff. • Provide on‑site leadership, delegating tasks and ensuring deadlines are met.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field and possess at least seven years of field‑engineer experience. Required skills include knowledge of MIC health and safety programs, the ability to read and analyze engineering plans, provide constructability and cost‑saving recommendations, and demonstrate strong work ethic, ethical integrity, and leadership. The role demands extensive travel, physical stamina for 12‑hour shifts, and the capability to work in varied weather, heights, and confined spaces while wearing required personal protective equipment. • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field. • Minimum 7 years of field engineering or similar experience. • Knowledge of MIC health and safety programs and relevant project regulations. • Ability to read and analyze engineering plans, specifications, and contracts. • Proven ability to suggest constructability and cost‑saving alternatives during design. • Strong work ethic, safety passion, and commitment to ethics and integrity. • Leadership skills with experience delegating work and meeting project goals. • Willingness to travel up to 90 % and relocate for 6‑12 month project assignments.
