About the Role

The Senior Project Accountant will perform advanced accounting functions and oversee the financial management of large‑scale construction projects, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory standards. This role collaborates closely with project managers, analyzes financial data, and can be performed fully remote or in a hybrid model with regular in‑office presence in San Diego, CA. Key duties include managing all project accounting activities, supporting audits, reviewing contracts and billing documentation, processing subcontractor payments, and driving month‑end and quarter‑end closing processes. The accountant will also develop and improve accounting procedures, assist with tax accruals, support cash application for owner billings, and mentor junior accountants while maintaining strict financial deadlines. • Oversee all accounting functions for assigned projects and ensure GAAP compliance • Provide guidance to project teams on complex accounting issues • Prepare documentation and support interim and year‑end external audits • Maintain relationships with Project Managers to enforce accounting policies and controls • Review owner contracts, preliminary notices, and compile AIA billing packages • Collect and verify subcontractor lien waivers and process timely payments • Drive month‑end and quarter‑end closings, create journal entries and perform reconciliations • Develop and improve project accounting processes for greater efficiency and accuracy • Perform cost coding and review vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy • Assist tax department with job‑cost and sales‑tax accrual calculations • Support Accounts Receivable with cash application for owner billings • Train and mentor junior Project Accountants, sharing best practices • Meet all financial deadlines with a sense of urgency and flexibility

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and have at least five years of progressive accounting experience, including three years in construction accounting. Public accounting experience, CPA, CMA, or CCIFP credentials are preferred, along with strong proficiency in integrated accounting systems, Microsoft Office, and excellent analytical and communication skills. Preference is given to candidates in Pacific or Central time zones to support late‑day collaboration. • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required • Minimum 5 years progressive accounting experience; at least 3 years in construction accounting • CPA, CMA, or CCIFP preferred; public accounting/audit experience strongly desired • Proficiency with integrated online accounting systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) • Strong analytical, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills • Ability to work in Pacific or Central time zones to support late‑day collaboration
