About the Role

The Environmental Intern position offers hands‑on exposure to projects involving drinking water, wastewater, energy, sustainability, resiliency, and ecological restoration. Interns will collaborate with recent graduates and senior staff through mentoring and young‑professional programs while applying standard scientific and engineering methods under the guidance of a project manager. • Participate in mentoring and young‑professional programs with recent graduates and company leaders • Apply standard science and engineering techniques and procedures • Assist with habitat restoration and mitigation efforts • Support design concept development • Provide permitting and compliance assistance • Conduct monitoring and reporting activities • Perform field surveys and bio‑benchmarking assessments • Help with offshore wind construction compliance support • Contribute to offshore wind transmission planning • Support Endangered Species Act permit compliance • Carry out ecological and water quality monitoring • Support Nanuet Laboratory projects, including field surveys, lab analysis, data analysis, and reporting

What You Bring

During the internship, participants may contribute to a wide range of activities such as habitat restoration, design concept work, permitting and compliance tasks, field surveys, monitoring, and support for offshore wind initiatives and laboratory analyses. These experiences are designed to build practical skills in environmental assessment and project delivery. Candidates should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in environmental science, biology, environmental engineering, or a related field, with at least two years of coursework completed and a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The role requires strong attention to detail, problem‑solving and communication abilities, basic Microsoft Office proficiency, and a genuine commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture; familiarity with relevant software and local residency are advantageous. • Gain experience on drinking water, wastewater, energy, sustainability, resiliency, or ecological restoration projects • Completed at least 2 years toward a degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant software packages • Local candidates preferred • Currently enrolled in environmental science, biology, environmental engineering, or a related program • Exhibit strong attention to detail • Possess solid problem‑solving and communication skills • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office
