About the Role
The Design Manager will guide technical excellence across a portfolio of transmission and distribution projects, ensuring coordinated design, proactive risk management and strong programme performance while mentoring junior engineers. • Lead design for Transmission & Distribution projects, including substations and transmission lines. • Partner with Project Managers and Directors to ensure seamless delivery, risk management and programme performance. • Mentor and develop junior engineers within multidisciplinary teams. • Act as primary technical liaison with clients, respond to RFQs and nurture long‑term relationships. • Contribute to business growth by preparing bids and proposals with the practice and Bids & Proposals team.

What You Bring
In Melbourne, the Energy team is expanding after several key project wins and is looking for an experienced Design Manager to join its Transmission & Distribution group. The role is ideal for a senior project engineer or seasoned design manager ready to assume broader technical and leadership responsibilities across energy infrastructure and building projects. Candidates should bring around a decade of experience in delivering complex energy infrastructure, with a strong background in substation design and, preferably, transmission line work. A tertiary engineering qualification—electrical preferred—and professional accreditation such as CPEng or RPEV are advantageous, together with solid knowledge of Australian standards and codes. • Minimum 10 years experience delivering complex energy infrastructure in consultancy, client‑side or contractor settings. • Proven substation design expertise; transmission line experience advantageous. • Hold an electrical engineering degree or equivalent; CPEng/RPEV accreditation preferred. • Strong knowledge of Australian standards, regulations and industry codes. • Excellent communication, leadership and client‑engagement abilities.
