About the Role
The opportunity is a senior role that leverages modelling, simulation, and rail systems expertise to shape complex transit networks. You will enhance operational performance and inform large‑scale infrastructure design while collaborating with specialists across Canada and beyond to deliver data‑driven solutions that keep people moving safely and efficiently. • Lead end‑to‑end rail operations modelling and simulation, including traction power, tunnel ventilation, pedestrian movement and traffic scenarios. • Apply advanced modelling methods to evaluate network performance, validate system requirements and optimize service planning. • Develop rail network and alignment concepts grounded in operational feasibility and system integration. • Mentor junior modellers to strengthen technical capability within the Rail Systems Engineering team. • Drive continuous improvement by designing processes, automation tools and visualisation methods for simulation outputs. • Support proposals, pursuits and multi‑project delivery while maintaining technical excellence and quality assurance. • Build internal and external relationships to expand client trust and position WSP as a leader in modelling and simulation.

What You Bring
• Hold an engineering degree (highly preferred) and 10+ years of experience in rail modelling, operational analysis and systems engineering. • Demonstrate deep hands‑on expertise with OpenTrack, RailSys, RTC or equivalent platforms and experience with OpenPowerNet for traction power studies. • Possess strong understanding of rail operations, signalling principles, block design and track layout fundamentals. • Utilise advanced data handling skills and automate workflows using Python or VBA. • Experience timetable planning, service modelling, rolling‑stock and crew diagramming, and resource optimisation. • Work across diverse rail contexts such as LRT, metro, commuter rail, tram and mixed‑traffic environments. • Familiarity with ETCS and CBTC technologies; exposure to macroscopic tools (Viriato, RailPlan, Attune) and platforms like MATLAB/Simulink or LabVIEW is an asset.
