About the Role
The programme blends classroom instruction with hands‑on practice, equipping apprentices with the technical expertise and safety awareness required for modern metal fabrication. • Develop and maintain good working relationships • Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications • Apply health and safety standards in workshop and site environments • Measure, mark out, cut, and form metal components • Perform welding processes (MIG, TIG, ARC) • Fabricate and assemble metal structures • Use hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery • Install and repair metalwork on site • Conduct quality control and finishing of fabricated components

What You Bring
Mears Group is offering a fixed‑term Blacksmith / Welder / Fabricator apprenticeship in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. The role pays the nationally agreed apprentice rate plus normal working hours and college attendance, and candidates must reside in a North Lanarkshire postcode. Training is provided by CITB with a provisional start date of 3 August 2026, and no formal qualifications are required. A Blacksmith / Welder / Fabricator works in workshops, construction sites, residential and commercial buildings, and industrial settings, fabricating, repairing and installing metal components such as gates, railings, staircases and structural supports while meeting quality, safety and specification standards. Applicants should be motivated to develop advanced metalworking abilities, communicate clearly and foster strong relationships with customers. All applicants undergo a pre‑employment assessment and must be able to travel independently to the branch. All roles require the right to work in the UK; Mears does not sponsor visas. Drivers must be over 21, hold a licence for at least three months and have fewer than nine penalty points.
