About the Role
The Shift Manager is responsible for overseeing terminal operations, ensuring vessels are berthed, loaded, and discharged efficiently within set timelines. They coordinate staffing and shift planning, work closely with maintenance to keep equipment operational, and lead the workforce through all shifts, including evenings and holidays. Additionally, they handle emergencies and uphold safety standards throughout the terminal. • Monitor ship operations to meet targets and deadlines • Ensure berthing and un‑berthing timelines are achieved • Manage day‑to‑day vessel loading and discharge according to targets • Plan and coordinate shifts based on terminal requirements • Assume shift duties from the previous manager, assessing ship count, manpower and breakdown issues • Liaise with maintenance to maximize equipment availability • Lead the terminal workforce at all times, including holidays, festivals and night shifts • Manage emergencies, injuries, contractor and work‑related issues • Coordinate with rostering staff to secure labor for operational demand • Achieve optimum productivity levels and reliable service to customers • Monitor and meet set operational goals and targets • Analyze trends and operational parameters • Review, identify and implement improved operating procedures and systems • Ensure correct and safe working practices throughout the terminal
