About the Role

The Substation Technician C is a non‑exempt position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment and systems up to 525 kV. The role requires work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and the use of specialized construction equipment. Travel is frequent and may include out‑of‑state assignments depending on customer needs. The technician may need to work long hours during emergency conditions, either independently or with a team. • Perform safe construction, maintenance, repair, testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting of substation equipment and systems. • Install and work on concrete foundations, ground grids, steel structures, buswork, airbreak/hookstick switches, control cables, terminations, control buildings, conduit, and capacitor banks (23 kV–230 kV). • Install and service transformers, regulators, circuit breakers, circuit switchers, and motor‑operated/manual switches. • Maintain company vehicles, test equipment, and tools in good working condition. • Work regularly with energized high‑voltage systems while following strict safety protocols. • Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, backhoes, excavators, articulated man‑lifts, trenchers, and rough‑terrain forklifts. • Read and interpret substation structural drawings, including elevations, plan views, sections, grounding details, and foundation plans.

Employees are frequently exposed to fumes, noise, vibration, and varying weather conditions on construction sites. Safety protocols are strictly enforced, and the role requires adherence to company safety rules and relevant codes and standards. The work schedule can include weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. • Perform rigorous physical labor, including climbing to 125 ft and lifting more than 50 lb. • Possess or obtain a Commercial Driver’s License and provide personal hand tools and safety‑toed boots. • Work independently or as part of a team, with willingness to work overtime, weekends, or holidays during emergencies. • Travel up to 90 % of the time, potentially out of state, while adhering to company safety rules and learning construction standards and codes. • Exhibit professionalism through reliability, punctuality, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and receptiveness to coaching.
