About the Role

The Principal Transport Planner role in Newcastle is a senior technical position that leads the development and delivery of transport planning projects. It combines deep analytical expertise, project leadership, client engagement, and mentorship to produce innovative and sustainable transport solutions while contributing to the growth of the practice. • Lead the development and delivery of transport planning projects for the North East region. • Conduct detailed transport scheme analysis, forecasting, and economic appraisal in line with DfT and HM Treasury guidance. • Prepare comprehensive business cases and ensure robust analytical outputs. • Provide strategic advice to regional and national clients and represent AECOM at senior‑level meetings, workshops, and consultations. • Identify business development opportunities, lead bids, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to secure commissions. • Mentor junior colleagues, support staff development, and contribute to resourcing and succession planning. • Apply advanced analytical techniques and industry‑standard tools to assess network performance and test scenarios.

What You Bring

• Hold a degree in Transport Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, Economics, or a related field. • Maintain chartered status or membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., CIHT, TPS, ICE). • Demonstrate proven experience in economic appraisal and business case development for major transport schemes. • Exhibit strong client relationship management, stakeholder engagement, and senior‑level presentation skills.
