About the Role
As Principal Civil Engineer you will lead multidisciplinary design teams, mentor junior staff and contribute to business development and proposal preparation. You will ensure technical delivery meets client expectations and Mott MacDonald’s standards for quality, health, safety and environmental performance, while supporting the growth and capability of the water team across the region. • Lead multi-disciplinary design teams in project delivery • Support technical excellence through digital innovation, best‑practice sharing and robust QA procedures • Contribute to commercial success via forecasting, risk management and producing bids and proposals • Apply Mott MacDonald’s global standards and review health, safety, welfare and environmental impact • Review design submissions to ensure compliance with contract requirements • Perform discipline checker role on standard outputs • Interface and liaise with clients and other stakeholders • Mentor and develop junior staff • Coordinate project resources with resource leads and grow capability through recruitment and training • Provide specialist support to account leaders and lead proposals and tenders in water and wastewater fields • Contribution to identification and development of low‑carbon solutions

What You Bring
The ideal candidate is a driven professional with a passion for delivering environmentally responsible and cost‑effective solutions. You should hold a chartered engineering status, have extensive experience leading multi‑disciplinary water or wastewater projects, and possess strong commercial awareness, communication skills and a proactive mindset. • Chartered engineer with relevant technical degree • Experience leading engineering or multi‑disciplinary design teams on UK/Ireland water or wastewater projects • Front‑end major projects experience • Solid knowledge of water or wastewater specifications and standards • Proven ability to manage and motivate teams to deliver consistently • Commercial awareness and ability to deliver cost‑effective solutions within time and budget constraints • Strong communication skills for interacting with disciplines, clients and promoting the team • Willingness to contribute to and develop technical knowledge networks • Proactive approach with adaptability to changing scenarios • Experience of complex, multi‑disciplinary engineering projects • Experience with canals or flood defence projects • Strong digital capability (e.g., Civils 3D, GIS, hydraulic modelling software) • Resource management and line‑management experience • Experience of Development Consent Orders (DCO) • Willingness to travel to other offices and sites as required
