About the Role
The Decommissioning Engineer – Submarines role is based in Derby and involves full‑time work with regular site visits to Rosyth, Devonport, Vulcan and other UK locations supporting decommissioning programmes, including submarine disposal. The position requires managing planning, sequencing and completion of post‑operational clean‑out, care and maintenance, de‑plant, decontamination and demolition of nuclear facilities. Key duties include developing overall and facility‑level decommissioning strategies, conducting feasibility studies, applying decommissioning principles, planning execution logic for safety and efficiency, and supervising physical activities. The role also supports risk management, ensures compliance with environmental and waste legislation, and creates technical specifications for contractor tendering. • Develop site and facility decommissioning strategies and detailed plans • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments and define execution logic • Apply decommissioning principles, including site characterisation and technology selection • Supervise and control physical decommissioning activities ensuring safety and efficiency • Support risk management by identifying hazards and implementing mitigation actions • Ensure compliance with environmental and waste legislation • Prepare technical specifications for contractor tendering and manage contractors

What You Bring
Candidates must understand decommissioning strategic objectives, typical phases and safety cases, and have knowledge of post‑operational clean‑out, decontamination, dismantling, radiological assessment and waste handling techniques. Familiarity with data quality objectives, site characterisation, and environmental legislation is required. A Security Check clearance is required; Rolls‑Royce will support the application if needed, and applicants must be UK nationals or MoD‑approved dual nationals.
