About the Role
The Heavy Equipment Technician performs repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, compact heavy equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks. Typical repairs include preventative maintenance inspections, hydraulic, fuel, exhaust, brakes, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems. Documentation duties include completing paperwork for repairs, recording parts usage, and accounting for work order times compared to time card times. The technician also completes daily consumables reports for hours, fuel, and oil usage, and collects analyses from oil sampling, on‑board computers, and fleet management software. Overhauls on gas or diesel engines are performed as needed, while all safety policies and procedures are followed.

What You Bring
The role requires advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment and to perform repair or preventative maintenance on electrical, diesel and gasoline vehicles such as compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders. Work involves engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, body components, hydraulic, brake, electrical and suspension systems, as well as wheels, tires, and undercarriages. The technician reads and interprets equipment condition reports, communicates with supervisors or operators for clarification, and discusses preventive techniques to minimize future repairs. Qualifications include advanced knowledge in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrain, suspension, steering and wheel‑end components, evidenced by ASE certification. Candidates must have at least one year of experience servicing heavy equipment, a mechanical trade school certificate or degree, and applicable ASE certifications. Additional skills such as Tier 4 emission system knowledge, welding, fabrication, and electrical diagnostics are preferred.
