SAFETY SPECIALIST - NSS (2nd Shift)

About the Role

The NSS Safety Specialist oversees accident prevention policies, training, and implementation at the Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana. This 2nd‑shift, onsite role focuses on critical systems and ensures compliance with safety, health, and environmental (SHE) programs. The specialist also manages post‑accident investigations in accordance with regulatory agencies and collaborates with NASA contractors, visitors, and facility users. • Provide SHE program support and ensure compliance for users, contractors, and visitors. • Assess facilities to identify hazards, control risks, and obtain management acceptance before startup or restart. • Perform hazard analyses, safety assessments, and review operational procedures, delivering feedback to the Government. • Participate in Operational Readiness, Test Readiness, and Production Readiness reviews to evaluate safety of facilities and operations. • Research safety regulations, inform senior management of changes, and implement compliance actions. • Manage injury review process, conduct root‑cause analysis, job hazard analyses, system audits, and ergonomic assessments. • Lead special safety projects, develop and update safety policies, procedures, and record‑keeping programs. • Formulate and maintain safety engineering approaches to meet NASA and customer requirements. • Analyze systems to eliminate hazards and integrate safety policies into NASA flight hardware design.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in safety and health or related field (or equivalent experience). • Experience with current federal, state, and company safety regulations and policies. • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a NASA badge with required documentation at hire. • Valid Real ID driver’s license and proficient verbal and written English communication. • Ability to lift and carry up to 45 lb and operate office/field equipment as needed. • Familiarity with NASA sites or government installations. • Knowledge of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Hazard Assessments. • Experience in construction or marine safety (preferred but not required). • Strong understanding of environmental statutes and safety regulations. • 3+ years of industrial or construction safety experience and exceptional written communication skills.
