About the Role

• Act as lead technical resource, providing specialist advice on timber structures—including mass timber systems, timber connections, and hybrid solutions—and support design strategies for new‑build and adaptive reuse projects. • Collaborate closely with clients, architects, and builders throughout design and construction phases to ensure timber solutions are practical, compliant, and innovative. • Develop and manage timber‑specific design and delivery procedures, promoting high‑quality, cost‑effective outcomes and seamless integration with other structural materials. • Review timber design calculations, connection details, and drawings for quality control; prepare technical specifications aligned with standards and sustainability targets. • Contribute to a multidisciplinary engineering team by participating in interdisciplinary reviews and providing input on budgets, schedules, and constructability strategies for timber‑focused projects.

What You Bring

AECOM’s Buildings & Places Team is seeking a technically outstanding Timber Design Lead for the National Structures team. As a senior member, you will provide technical, project‑management and structural‑engineering design input on sports infrastructure, aviation, education and commercial projects. The role can be based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane and is suitable for an Associate Director or Principal‑level Structural Engineer. The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but we consider all applicants. A Bachelor of Engineering with at least 12 years of experience delivering complex structural projects across Australia and New Zealand is required. Experience with mass‑timber design and adaptive‑reuse projects is highly regarded. You must be able to provide specialised structural technical input autonomously from concept through detailed design, and be comfortable using advanced digital workflows with software such as ETABS, RAM Concept, RAPT and SpaceGASS. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for liaising with internal teams, clients, architects and contractors at all levels.
