About the Role
The Dispatcher communicates with WM drivers to resolve problems on route, handles incoming service orders, directs drivers, resolves service issues, and interacts with customers, WM staff, and operational personnel while using proprietary software to log tickets and track activity. Shifts may include overtime and Saturday hours based on site needs. The role involves collaborating with routing specialists, route managers, and the service department to optimize routes; dispatching drivers based on customer needs, locations, and loads while balancing cost and speed; fielding calls and emails to manage same‑day pick‑up or container delivery requests; making outbound calls to customers while drivers are on site to resolve issues; troubleshooting potential delivery or pick‑up problems; and documenting driver information for relevant departments. Additional duties include acting as liaison with maintenance staff for emergencies, coordinating projects for managers, delegating work during a manager’s absence, serving as an escalation point for other dispatchers, training new dispatchers, and covering multiple lines of business across various sites as needed. • Communicate with drivers to resolve route issues • Handle incoming service orders and direct drivers accordingly • Use WM software to log tickets and track activities • Optimize complex routes with routing specialists and managers • Dispatch drivers based on customer needs, location, and load • Manage same‑day pick‑up and container delivery requests via calls and emails • Initiate outbound calls to customers while drivers are on site to resolve issues • Troubleshoot and prevent delivery or pick‑up problems • Document driver information and distribute to relevant departments • Serve as emergency contact for maintenance and equipment issues • Coordinate projects and delegate tasks in manager’s absence • Act as escalation point for other dispatchers • Train new dispatchers • Cover commercial, residential, and roll‑off lines across multiple sites
