Servicing, fault-finding and repairing Hitachi rolling stock on 24/7 shifts.

About the Role
The permanent, full‑time role works on a 24 / 7 rotating days‑and‑nights schedule with occasional weekend shifts. The Lead Technician will be responsible for servicing, complex fault finding and repairs on Hitachi rolling‑stock, particularly the Class AT300 fleet, and may work alone on occasion. Candidates must reside within one hour’s travel of the Edge Hill depot for HSE reasons. The role involves both planned and reactive maintenance of traction and rolling‑stock assets, ensuring compliance with operational specifications and maintaining accurate records in SAP. The Lead Technician will collaborate with reliability engineers, support on‑site failures, and contribute to continuous improvement of asset reliability. • Maintain worksite, materials, and equipment in safe condition. • Follow health, safety, environmental and quality standards. • Perform planned and unplanned maintenance on traction and rolling‑stock assets. • Verify assets meet operational specifications using engineering processes. • Read and interpret traction and rolling‑stock drawings and specifications. • Remove, replace, modify, or fabricate components with hand tools. • Assemble and install traction and rolling‑stock components using engineering techniques. • Identify, assess and rectify defects, including repeat issues, and propose repairs. • Create technical scopes of work for fault rectification by other staff. • Support reliability technicians with asset reliability improvements. • Provide technical assistance during service failures and on‑duty incidents. • Update SAP records with clear, concise information of work performed. • Liaise with Hitachi and external personnel to complete duties.

What You Bring
Ideal applicants will have previous experience in a similar rail‑maintenance role, knowledge of high‑voltage electrics, and a valid UK driving licence. Key certifications include Network Rail Sentinel PTS, Designated Person, Working at Height, Manual Handling and crimping competence, as well as an engineering NVQ Level 3 or equivalent apprenticeship. Strong communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to represent Hitachi professionally are also required.
