About the Role

The role involves supporting the Leading Hand (Land Management) by carrying out routine grounds‑maintenance tasks across the estates. You will be responsible for delivering and maintaining the performance of grounds and gardens, as well as identifying and managing any associated risks. • Support the Leading Hand with routine grounds‑maintenance across estates. • Conduct daily maintenance of grounds and gardens to meet performance standards. • Identify and mitigate risks associated with grounds‑maintenance activities.

What You Bring

Downer has secured the Property and Asset Services (PAS) contract to provide base and estate services for its two largest regions, NSW/ACT and Queensland, marking a major milestone in its 80‑plus year partnership with the Australian Defence Force. We are hiring permanent Groundspersons for the Greenbank Training Area, with a start date of February 2026, and we welcome candidates from any background, whether they bring defence experience, industry knowledge, or transferable skills. Applicants should ideally hold a Certificate III in Horticulture and have experience with grounds maintenance, horticulture, and irrigation systems. Desirable qualifications include an Agricultural Chemical Distribution & Control (AC/DC) certificate, ChemCert, a Medium or Heavy Rigid Truck licence, and a Chainsaw Operator licence, alongside a current open driver’s licence. Candidates must be able to obtain a Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizenship is mandatory) and demonstrate a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to high‑quality outcomes. • Hold a Certificate III in Horticulture (desirable) and have grounds‑maintenance experience. • Possess knowledge of horticulture, irrigation systems, and AC/DC & ChemCert (desirable). • Hold a Medium/Heavy Rigid Truck licence, Chainsaw Operator licence, and a current open driver’s licence (desirable). • Ability to obtain a Defence Security Clearance (must be Australian citizen). • Demonstrate strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to quality outcomes.
