About the Role

Joining GFT’s dams and hydraulics team means contributing to innovative solutions for sustainable water management and infrastructure. The team specializes in dams and levees, advanced water and wastewater treatment, storm‑water management, and conveyance systems. Projects integrate technology, sustainability, and regulatory compliance to protect public health and enhance quality of life. During the internship you will work on a high‑performing team, receiving guidance and mentorship from experienced engineers. The focus is on providing design services across a variety of projects, and most interns transition to full‑time positions after graduation. • Perform analysis and design of new dams, dam rehabilitation, flood control, and hydraulic structures using software and hand calculations. • Apply technical requirements and design criteria to project work. • Participate in technical meetings and assist with field reviews of project sites. • Prepare technical reports and present findings to clients.

What You Bring

The internship runs from mid‑May through mid‑August. GFT, an award‑winning architecture, engineering, and construction firm, is seeking a Dams & Hydraulics Intern. The role offers real‑world experience in a dynamic, inclusive environment that encourages innovation and a sense of belonging. Candidates must be enrolled in an ABET‑accredited civil engineering program with a focus on dams, hydraulics, or water resources. Relevant academic coursework or prior internship experience, familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, and strong analytical and problem‑solving skills are required. Experience with GIS, Civil 3D, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, or SITES is a plus. • Enrolled in an ABET‑accredited civil engineering program focused on dams, hydraulics, or water resources. • Demonstrated interest through internships or relevant coursework. • Proficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite; strong data analysis, written, and problem‑solving abilities. • Preferred experience with GIS, Civil 3D, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, and SITES.
