About the Role

The Craft Foreman directs work groups on active railway property and construction zones, ensuring contractors clear the area before trains approach. Using railway operating rules and safety procedures, the foreman minimizes delays to scheduled rail operations while protecting workers and infrastructure. • Ensure compliance with railway safety requirements, company policy, and CROR, including track protection and emergency identification. • Instruct workers on site-specific requirements before work under Safety Watch/Lone Worker, Rule 841/842, and Track Occupancy Permit. • Remain physically present with workers to verify protection compliance. • Consult supervisors/contractors to assess scope and hazards, applying field controls to protect rail operations. • Communicate clearly with work groups, trains, railway personnel, and traffic controllers via established radio procedures. • Apply rules and regulations knowledge to support safe, on‑time train movements through work zones. • Provide on‑site track protection per Canadian Rail Operating Rules. • Operate company vehicles responsibly and perform daily maintenance and inspections. • Perform additional duties assigned by the Track Protection Supervisor. • Complete administrative documentation per PNR Quality Management System, including daily flagging sheets. • Assist with railway maintenance and construction as needed. • Read and interpret schedules, railway plans, and specifications. • Direct work groups safely on live railway corridors. • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. • Frequently stand, walk, climb, balance, lift, and bend on uneven terrain.

What You Bring

• Minimum two years experience in railway track protection. • Track Inspection Guidelines certification (preferred). • Certified in Canadian Railway Operating Rules. • Knowledge of occupational hazards and railway engineering safety regulations. • Strong verbal and written communication in English and French. • Proficient with computers, tablets, etc. • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license. • Exposure to loud noise, live track/trains, and high voltage. • Ability to work rotating shifts. • Ability to work independently or in a team. • Maintain concentration and mental alertness in varied situations. • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
