About the Role
The role supports the Development team, which provides transport planning, civil infrastructure and urban design for development and master‑planning projects across the North East and nationally. WSP is recruiting a Technical Director with a development transport planning background, embedded in the local and regional market, to drive client‑facing activities, business growth, market strategy and technical leadership while diversifying the team in staff numbers and revenue. The successful candidate will have a proven record of winning and delivering new work within a multidisciplinary consultancy, experience across public and private sectors, and the ability to manage large multi‑disciplinary tender proposals. They will work closely with colleagues to share market intelligence, best practice and innovation, and will act as Project Director on major and strategically important commissions. • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, leveraging client and professional networks to increase market share for the Development team. • Collaborate with the Regional Director for Development North and local office lead to set and agree growth targets and plans. • Build trusted relationships with public and private sector clients and key stakeholders, including local planning authorities. • Provide technical advice to clients throughout the planning and design process. • Lead and support bid development, reviewing and authorising submissions to demonstrate commercial and technical value. • Act as Project Director for major projects and strategically important commissions. • Ensure the team complies with safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) standards.

What You Bring
• Hold a degree in transport planning or civil engineering and Chartered status. • Demonstrate commercial and strategic capability with a track record of identifying and delivering new business opportunities. • Exhibit strong interpersonal, leadership and management skills, with a broad range of relevant project experience.
