About the Role
The Project Accountant position is onsite, Monday‑Friday, 8 AM‑5 PM at 3500 Colonnade Pkwy, Birmingham, AL. The role is responsible for specialized project accounting functions and internal controls in line with company policies, accounting standards, and contractual requirements. It partners closely with Project Management and Project Controls to manage project financials, including budgets, invoices, payables, receivables, and general ledger activity, while providing accurate financial insight throughout the project lifecycle. • Review, analyze, and monitor project financial data for accuracy and compliance. • Audit contractual compliance, including invoicing formats, reporting standards, revenue recognition, and cash flow projections. • Apply ASC 606 principles to invoicing and revenue recognition. • Advise management on project financial performance and risks. • Maintain contract documentation, fee structures, budgets, and contract setup. • Collaborate with project personnel to provide timely financial data and resolve accounting issues. • Support multiple Project Managers with daily accounting inquiries. • Prepare detailed financial analysis and reporting within project control systems. • Develop and analyze cost baselines, earned value management, forecasts, variance analysis, and schedules. • Serve as central contact for internal and external financial stakeholders. • Partner with technical staff to provide financial insights for scope, schedule, and budget decisions. • Prepare and maintain cost rates, baseline budgets, work packages, cost estimates, and monthly variance reports. • Utilize earned value management and other techniques to evaluate planned vs. actual performance. • Analyze project schedules, assess critical paths, and conduct “what‑if” scenario analysis. • Ensure compliance with internal standards, policies, and procedures.

What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. • Minimum 4 years of accounting or finance experience. • Experience working with an ERP system. • Strong knowledge of GAAP and SOX compliance. • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office. • High confidentiality and professionalism. • Strong analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication. • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels. • Strong time management and multitasking abilities. • Preferred: construction industry experience, JD Edwards, and 3+ years of project accounting.
