About the Role
Typical deliverables include conceptual drawings, heat and water balances, technology comparison tables, site due‑diligence assessments, pro formas, equipment quotations, schedules, cost estimates, bid specifications, pipe and equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, performance procedures, feasibility studies and reports. The role supports a range of generation systems—including simple cycle, combined cycle, cogeneration, distributed generation, reciprocating engine, combined heat‑and‑power and renewables—by collaborating with specialists, engineers, scientists, real‑estate developers, economists, schedulers, estimators and designers across the U.S. and occasionally abroad. Travel for site surveys, technical conferences, client meetings and schedule monitoring is required but generally stays below 10 % of time. HDR is seeking an experienced Project Development Technical Specialist for its Michigan‑based Power Generation team. The specialist will lead project development teams, coordinate across engineering disciplines, monitor and communicate project status, and provide technical and contractual consulting for conceptual design and owner’s engineer projects. • BS degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET‑accredited university • 10+ years of experience, ideally in the power industry with a blend of design and field projects • Experience working in multi‑disciplinary environments • Ability and commitment to obtain a Professional Engineer’s license • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments • Willingness to mentor less experienced specialists, engineers, and EITs • Proficiency in working within an established schedule and budget • Associate’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent work experience • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in the supported discipline • Hands‑on experience with discipline‑specific computer applications • Knowledge of industry standards for the supported discipline • Proficiency with Microsoft Office • Strong verbal and written communication skills
