About the Role

The Heavy Equipment Technician performs repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, compact heavy equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks. Typical repairs include preventative maintenance inspections and work on hydraulic, fuel, exhaust, brakes, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems. Technicians read and interpret equipment condition reports or repair orders, communicate with supervisors and operators for clarification, and discuss preventive techniques to minimize future repairs. They complete paperwork documenting parts usage, work order times, and consumables reports, and record hours, fuel, and oil usage for entry into the Dossier fleet management system. Additional duties involve collecting and interpreting oil‑sampling analyses, on‑board computer data, and fleet management software information, following all safety policies and procedures, and performing overhauls on gas or diesel engines. • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and emission systems on heavy equipment and light trucks. • Perform preventative maintenance, overhauls, and repairs on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, brakes, suspension, and HVAC systems. • Interpret equipment condition reports, communicate defects, and recommend preventive techniques to operators. • Complete work orders, parts usage documentation, consumables reports, and record fuel and oil usage in fleet management software. • Conduct oil sampling analysis and utilize on‑board computer data for equipment diagnostics. • Adhere to all safety policies, OSHA HazCom, Lockout/Tagout, and fire protection regulations. • Participate in 401(k) with company match, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, and paid time off.

What You Bring

The role requires advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems, performing repair or preventative maintenance on electrical, diesel, and gasoline vehicles such as compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders to maximize safe and productive operations. Responsibilities include work on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, body components, hydraulic, brake, electrical, and suspension systems, as well as wheels, tires and undercarriages. Qualifications include advanced knowledge of air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, suspension, steering, and wheel‑end components, supported by ASE certification. Candidates must have at least one year of experience servicing heavy equipment, a mechanical trade‑school certificate or degree, electrical diagnostics training, applicable ASE certifications, knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems, and welding or fabrication skills. Minimum requirements also dictate one year of experience with OSHA HazCom, Lockout/Tagout, and fire‑protection regulations. The position is a union role offering a wage of $33.06 per hour and is classified as safety‑sensitive. • Possess ASE certification and advanced knowledge of air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, and Tier 4 emissions. • Hold at least one year of heavy‑equipment technician experience and relevant trade school or electrical diagnostics training. • Demonstrate welding/fabrication skills and ability to work on gas or diesel engines.
