About the Role

The Designated Driver Trainer (DDT) is a dual‑role position that combines regular route operation with driver‑training responsibilities. The DDT drives a WM‑assigned vehicle while also supporting the onboarding and ongoing development of new drivers. This role focuses on safe, efficient operation and ensures drivers meet company and regulatory standards. DDTs operate their assigned vehicles safely and efficiently, performing all standard driver duties such as pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and timely waste or recycling collection. They conduct on‑the‑job training, coaching, and defensive‑driving instruction for new hires and for drivers reassigned to new routes or showing performance issues. While observing drivers, they provide immediate, constructive feedback, keep detailed training records, and report performance data to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager. Additionally, they mentor drivers and act as ambassadors for WM’s safety culture and corporate values. • Operate assigned WM vehicle safely, perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, and ensure timely waste/recycling collection. • Deliver on‑the‑job training, coaching, and defensive‑driving instruction for new hires and drivers needing improvement. • Observe driver performance, provide immediate constructive feedback, and document strengths and areas for growth. • Maintain accurate training records and report driver progress to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager. • Mentor drivers, promote WM safety standards, and uphold company values as a brand ambassador. • Meet physical demands such as standing, walking, lifting, crouching, and working in both indoor garage and outdoor weather conditions.

What You Bring

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, at least two years of experience operating a WM vehicle with a CDL, and a Class A or B commercial driver’s license with an air‑brake endorsement. Preferred qualifications are recent (within seven years) military driving experience and two years of experience supervising, training, or coaching personnel. Candidates must be able to meet the physical demands of the role. The position involves frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, and other physical activities, both inside garages and in outdoor conditions with inclement weather. The estimated base pay ranges from $26 to $35 per hour for this office/on‑site or hybrid role. • Required: High School/GED, 2 + years WM vehicle operation with CDL, Class A/B CDL with air‑brake endorsement. • Preferred: Recent military driving experience (within 7 years) and 2 + years supervising or training personnel.
