Application Specialist III

About the Role

The Application Specialist III provides support for live application software used by a broad user base, handling complex incidents escalated from frontline IT support and within the application support team. This role diagnoses incidents, resolves issues, or manages them to resolution within defined service levels, acting as a subject matter expert for assigned applications. Key duties include investigating and solving complex application problems, scheduling work to minimize business disruption, applying temporary fixes and workarounds, and keeping the knowledge base updated for future error resolution. The specialist also processes after‑hours data changes, creates user stories and defects for product teams, and mentors less‑experienced colleagues while participating in continual improvement initiatives. • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex application issues and service requests. • Schedule work to meet priorities and minimize business disruption. • Apply temporary fixes, workarounds, and maintain application security and functionality. • Update knowledge base to facilitate future error resolution. • Communicate new issues to stakeholders promptly and clearly. • Process after‑hours data changes on production systems. • Create user stories and defects for product team review. • Train onboarding team members on day‑to‑day responsibilities. • Mentor less‑experienced application specialists. • Participate in department continual improvement initiatives.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least five years of experience with ITSM processes, knowledge‑management tools, and supporting enterprise‑level applications, as well as strong SQL query skills. Required certifications include an advanced specialty IT certification and a foundation‑level IT Service Management certification, and the role demands familiarity with ITSM frameworks and agile project management. • Minimum 5 years experience with ITSM processes and toolsets. • Minimum 5 years experience with knowledge‑management methodologies and tools. • Advanced level IT certification in a specialty area; foundation‑level IT Service Management certification. • Understanding of ITSM frameworks and agile project management processes. • Minimum 5 years supporting enterprise‑level applications in a virtual support environment. • Minimum 5 years writing SQL queries to retrieve and manipulate data. • Minimum 2 years experience with problem identification techniques. • Ability to work Eastern Time Zone hours.
