Lead Engineer Industrial Automation
Design & commission automated ETO electrical assembly lines with robotics, PLCs, vision, MES.
Job Highlights
About the Role
The Lead Engineer – Industrial Automation will design, commission, and scale fully automated production solutions for ETO electrical assemblies such as switchboards and LV assemblies. This role covers robotics, PLC/motion controls, vision and AI‑guided assembly, digital work instructions, and MES/IIoT integration. Key responsibilities include converting user and system requirements into detailed control architectures, authoring FMEA/PFMEA, defining ISA‑S88 state machines, and leading design reviews, FAT, SAT, ramp‑up and handover activities. The engineer will develop flexible robotic cells for panel handling, component insertion, torqueing, OCR, wiring, and end‑of‑line testing, while also handling PLC, motion, HMI, SCADA, network, field‑bus, and IIoT configurations. • Design and commission automated production lines for electrical assemblies (switchboards, LV). • Convert user requirements into detailed control architectures, perform FMEA, and define ISA‑S88 state machines. • Lead design reviews, FAT, SAT, ramp‑up, and handover activities. • Develop robotic cells for panel handling, component insertion, torqueing, OCR, wiring, and end‑of‑line testing. • Program robots using URScript, RAPID, KRL, and validate reach, collision, and cycle time with simulation tools. • Implement PLC, motion, HMI, and SCADA solutions on Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, and other platforms using IEC‑61131‑3. • Configure industrial networks and IIoT protocols (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, OPC‑UA, MQTT, Kafka). • Integrate vision and AI systems (Keyence, Cognex, OpenCV) for inspection, bin‑picking, and guidance. • Deploy digital work instructions and AR guidance (LightGuide, Arkite, Vuforia) for operator assistance. • Connect production cells to MES/IIoT platforms (Apriso, Ortems) for routing, traceability, and performance dashboards. • Ensure compliance with safety standards (ISO 12100, ISO 10218, IEC 61508) and conduct risk assessments. • Own the Industry 4.0 lab, creating standard cell templates, code libraries, and training material. • Manage supplier and vendor RFQs, ATPs, coding standards, and KPI impact. • Lead multiple projects, plan budgets, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

What You Bring
Required experience encompasses 8+ years of commissioning HMLV/ETO automation in multi‑robot and multi‑PLC environments, proficiency with robot programming languages (URScript, RAPID, KRL, etc.) and simulation tools (RoboDK, Visual Components, RobotStudio), and deep knowledge of PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, etc.). The candidate must also be skilled in vision systems (Keyence, Cognex), digital work instructions/AR (LightGuide, Arkite, Vuforia), and MES/IIoT integration (Apriso, Ortems), while adhering to safety standards such as ISO 12100 and IEC 61508. The position requires a B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics/Robotics/Industrial Engineering, strong problem‑solving abilities (DMAIC preferred), project management experience, effective communication with stakeholders, and the ability to negotiate with vendors and manage multiple dynamic projects.
