About the Role
The Line & Grade Instrument Man II is responsible for using surveying equipment to ensure precise layout of building locations, structures, and dimensions across projects. This role coordinates layout activities with the Party Chief, Superintendent, and foremen, supports field conflict resolution, and contributes to safety by reinforcing theft culture and daily communication. Key duties include establishing primary and secondary survey points, setting up and validating surveying equipment, providing layout data to project leadership, calculating daily concrete hold quantities, reviewing construction documents for discrepancies, and maintaining field notes, as‑built drawings, and clarification logs. The incumbent also collaborates with formwork engineering, communicates changes to trades, and participates in toolbox talks and safety task analyses. • Maintain accurate site dimensions and control points. • Lay out building locations, structures, and dimensions throughout projects. • Establish primary survey points and coordinate secondary controls with crews. • Set up, check, and validate surveying equipment accuracy. • Provide layout data to Party Chief and calculate daily concrete hold quantities. • Review construction documents for discrepancies and issue clarification requests. • Coordinate layout activities with Party Chief, Superintendent, Foremen, and other trades. • Interface with Formwork Engineering to supply layouts for shop drawings. • Maintain field notes, as‑built drawings, and clarification logs. • Follow safety guidelines, attend toolbox talks, and contribute to Safety Task Analysis. • Perform geometry, trigonometry, and tolerance calculations using coordinate systems. • Direct work and address inquiries from customers or regulatory agencies.
What You Bring
Candidates must have a high school diploma and at least four years of construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, along with two years as a Line & Grade Instrument Man I and proficiency in AutoCAD. Required skills include geometry and trigonometry calculations, knowledge of industry tolerances and coordinate systems, strong communication, teamwork, conflict‑resolution abilities, and the capacity to direct work and respond to customer or regulatory inquiries. • Hold a high school diploma plus four years of construction experience (or equivalent). • Possess at least two years of experience as a Line & Grade Instrument Man I and AutoCAD proficiency. • Demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, and conflict‑resolution skills.
