About the Role
The Sustainability Advisor develops and implements recycling and diversion programs and assists in promoting the company's recycling efforts. This role works directly with the customer base via telephone, onsite visits, events, trade shows, and educational outreach to identify and teach proper recycling techniques, improving the quality of materials received at recycling centers. The advisor engages in a variety of activities to improve recycling performance, enhance community outreach, and strengthen customer relationships. • Monitor and evaluate commercial and event recycling programs; recommend improvements. • Coordinate customer collection schedules with Operations. • Develop and implement food waste recycling outreach programs and educational materials for schools and businesses. • Deliver classroom presentations and respond to recycling inquiries. • Draft and disseminate communications to help customers eliminate contaminating materials. • Produce newsletters, reports, brochures, ads, slide shows, and other company publications. • Conduct commercial waste audits, recommend service levels, and provide written reports. • Compile and analyze food waste recycling tonnage data and outreach activity reports. • Research grants and funding sources for recycling projects and assist in securing funds. • Build relationships and promote programs through community events, trade shows, and chambers of commerce. • Schedule and conduct proactive phone outreach to set appointments with customer decision‑makers. • Use tracking tools daily to document activities and develop customer recycling profiles. • Organize tours of transfer stations, landfills, or other facilities.

What You Bring
Ideal candidates possess experience in communication, business outreach, and managing websites or social‑media platforms. They demonstrate strong project‑management, time‑management, and motivation skills, as well as excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities, active listening, and a service‑oriented mindset. Applicants must have at least two years of customer‑facing experience addressing client needs and hold a valid driver’s license. • Experience in communication, business outreach, and professional engagements. • Experience managing websites and social media platforms. • Strong ability to organize, manage, and control concurrent project workflows. • Excellent time management and deadline‑meeting skills. • Ability to motivate volunteers and build effective relationships with staff, officials, and the public. • Strong verbal and written communication, active listening, and presentation skills. • Quick grasp of concepts, follow‑through, and work‑schedule adherence. • High self‑motivation, strong work ethic, and confidentiality. • Service‑oriented mindset. • Minimum two years of customer‑facing experience addressing client needs. • Valid driver’s license.
