About the Role
The Senior Construction Inspector will oversee all phases of highway construction and maintenance projects, including bridge, signal installation, and roadway work. This role involves measuring, testing, and checking materials and methods to ensure contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents, as well as documenting daily progress and generating reports. • Inspect all phases of highway construction, maintenance, bridge, signal, and roadway projects. • Measure, test, and verify materials, methods, and installations against plans and specifications. • Document contractor progress daily, input data into software systems, and produce reports and correspondence. • Prepare and review daily inspector reports, site diaries, and material test documentation using SiteManager and LCAMS. • Record material quantities received, used, and tested, and coordinate additional testing as needed. • Maintain comprehensive project records, including workforce, equipment, photos, as‑built plans, and payment estimates. • Track submittals, requests for information, and project correspondence. • Review project schedules for accuracy and progress. • Conduct and document pre‑construction and progress meetings. • Generate weekly and monthly progress reports. • Perform field checks of “red‑line” as‑built plans for completeness. • Assist in constructability and bidability reviews. • Monitor project budget and support contractor monthly evaluations.

What You Bring
Candidates must have at least six years of VDOT experience, a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Virginia DOT Security Clearance. Preferred candidates bring additional construction inspection experience, relevant VDOT material certifications, and specialized safety or technical certifications. • Minimum 6 years of VDOT experience with knowledge of roadway, traffic signals, structures, and bridge construction. • High school diploma or GED. • Valid driver’s license. • Ability to obtain Virginia DOT Security Clearance. • Construction inspection experience with a DOT or consultant firm. • VDOT Materials Certifications (e.g., Asphalt Field I & II, Hydraulic Cement Concrete, ACI Concrete, Soils & Aggregate, Slurry Surface, Surface Treatment, Pavement Markings). • Additional certifications such as fall protection, confined space, guardrail installation, OSHA safety, nuclear safety, work zone traffic control, flagger, DEQ erosion & sediment control, DEQ stormwater, WACEL, ICC, NICET, NACE, CMIT.

Benefits
