About the Role

The Assistant Controller role at GHD covers a seven‑month maternity leave and is a key member of the Americas Financial Control team, supporting the production of accurate results and high‑quality financial reporting for the region. The position supports financial reporting, analysis, and audit processes for the Americas business and its subsidiaries, ensuring both statutory and management reporting meet the highest standards. It also involves close collaboration with internal and offshore stakeholders, oversight of payroll accounting entries, and participation in special projects that demand strong communication and project‑management skills. • Review and post monthly journal entries for statutory and management reporting. • Prepare reconciliations and working papers to substantiate entries. • Identify and resolve accounting variances and issues promptly. • Oversee and review entries and reconciliations performed by the offshore Finance Services team. • Act as the primary on‑shore contact for payroll accounting entries. • Guide and review the work of staff accountants on journal entries. • Conduct general ledger reconciliation reviews and propose solutions. • Support balance‑sheet analytical reviews and explain key business drivers. • Assist external audits with month‑end closes, audit working papers, and technical accounting memos. • Contribute to timely preparation of statutory financial statements. • Communicate financial information clearly to business stakeholders. • Work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and meet multiple deadlines.

What You Bring

Working within a seven‑person on‑shore team and collaborating with offshore finance services, the role requires strong expertise in accounting issues, stakeholder communication, problem‑solving, and the ability to work autonomously while being highly organized and detail‑oriented. The role can be based in any U.S. or Canadian office with a hybrid schedule of three days on‑site per week. Candidates should hold a professional accounting qualification, possess extensive finance experience, and be proficient with ERP and BI tools. • Maintain advanced Excel, ERP (SAP/Oracle/Hyperion) and BI reporting proficiency. • Hold CPA or Chartered Accountant qualification with knowledge of US Federal Accounting. • Bring at least 10 + years of finance experience in an international organization or audit firm. • Demonstrate strong communication, influencing, and negotiation abilities.
