About the Role

The role involves leading primary design (concept, FEED, detail) for AIS/GIS/Hybrid substations up to 400kV for utility companies and developers, adhering to international standards across the UK, Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Australia. Experience in HV/LV distribution for oil & gas, offshore, thermal, hydro, solar, wind, and BESS projects is advantageous. Responsibilities include designing substation automation systems, SCADA I/O lists, and equipment sizing for transformers, generators, cables, UPS, and capacitor banks, as well as creating layouts for outdoor switchyards, indoor substations, trench/tray, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection. The role also involves preparing and evaluating technical bids, reviewing vendor drawings, compiling tender documents and BOQs, reviewing contractor design documentation, conducting system studies using ETAP, and coordinating interdisciplinary activities with the lead office; temporary out‑of‑town assignments may be required. • Lead primary design (concept, FEED, detail) of AIS/GIS/Hybrid substations up to 400 kV for utility and developer projects. • Design HV/LV distribution systems for oil & gas, offshore, thermal, hydro, solar, wind, and BESS projects. • Develop secondary system documentation: key SLDs, protection & control schematics, cable and interconnection schedules. • Perform calculations: sag & tension, short‑circuit factors, conductor sizing, earthing, lightning protection, CT/VT, battery sizing. • Design substation automation (SAS), SCADA I/O lists, and equipment sizing (transformers, generators, cables, UPS, capacitor banks). • Create layout designs for outdoor switchyards, indoor substations, trench/tray, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection. • Prepare technical specifications and data sheets for transformers, DG sets, switchgear, cables, UPS, batteries, and distribution boards. • Evaluate technical bids, review vendor drawings, and compile tender documents and BOQs. • Review contractor design documentation and conduct system studies (load flow, short‑circuit, motor starting) using ETAP. • Coordinate interdisciplinary activities and liaise with lead office; may involve temporary out‑of‑town assignments. • Lead medium/large projects, manage and mentor engineering teams, and monitor project commercial aspects. • Promote health & safety practices and facilitate knowledge‑sharing sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • substation design
  • hv/lv distribution
  • system calculations
  • scada design
  • etap studies
  • tender evaluation

What You Bring

The candidate must understand secondary system requirements and produce key single line diagrams, protection and control schematics, cable schedules, and interconnection schedules, while performing calculations such as sag tension, SCF, conductor sizing, earthing, lightning protection, CT/VT sizing, and battery sizing. Candidates should hold a degree in Electrical Engineering and have core experience in primary substation design up to 400kV, preferably with utility projects in the listed regions and exposure to oil & gas, offshore, and various power generation sectors. They must interpret scopes, lead medium to large projects, manage and mentor teams, monitor project costs, and handle multiple responsibilities hands‑on as needed. Additional skills include proficiency with design software such as Dialux, ETAP, AutoCAD/BIM 360, Navisworks, Revit, and MS Office, strong written and oral communication, self‑motivation, the ability to prepare fee estimates, drive innovative technology solutions, and promote health & safety awareness through knowledge‑sharing sessions. • Hold an Electrical Engineering degree and have primary substation design experience up to 400 kV. • Proficient in Dialux, ETAP, AutoCAD/BIM 360, Navisworks, Revit, and MS Office. • Strong written and oral communication, self‑motivated, able to prepare fee estimates and drive innovative solutions.
