About the Role

The Building Maintenance Technician – Plumber (Operator Level 3) reports to the Building Operator Lead Hand and is responsible for operating and maintaining facilities within judicial institutions, whether a single building or a portfolio of buildings. The role performs a wide range of maintenance, repair, minor alterations, and service functions, operates building equipment, handles major emergencies, and maximizes predictive and preventive maintenance activities. Rotating shifts and on‑call emergency response are required. Daily duties include responding to calls from the Help Desk, Facility Manager or Lead Hand, prioritizing work, and referring major mechanical, technical, or customer‑relation issues to the Lead Hand. The technician maintains service tools and equipment, follows safe work practices and customer/contractor standards, and completes required reports and paperwork on time. Planning, documenting, and executing maintenance and repair activities in line with contractual requirements and safety guidelines are also essential. • General breakdowns on mechanical (plumbing, HVAC), electrical, and structural systems. • Monthly visual inspection and coordination of 3rd‑party annual testing of fire dampers, fire system interface, and exhaust fans. • Low‑level maintenance of data‑room systems (excluding proprietary manufacturer requirements). • Support for monthly generator maintenance and coordination of 3rd‑party annual load testing, including attendance and witnessing of change‑over.

What You Bring

• Low‑level mechanical repairs and maintenance to cool rooms and fridges (excluding re‑gassing). • Low‑level fire system work (isolation for works). • Low‑level BMS interaction (adjusting set points, printing reports, and isolation). • High School diploma or GED. • 4th or 5th Class Power Engineering Ticket. • Certified Plumber in British Columbia. • Minimum 2 years building operation or stationary engineer experience. • Experience with electrical, fire alarm, and mechanical (plumbing, piping, HVAC) systems. • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain CPIC clearance. • Flexibility to work rotational shifts (days, afternoons, evenings, weekends). • BC trade qualification in trade plumbing. • Experience with automated systems. • Mechanically inclined with aptitude for minor building and system repairs. • Strong knowledge of work protection codes and accident investigation. • Achievement‑oriented and resourceful to meet service delivery goals. • Effective team player with excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills. • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and CMMS. • Certified to use aerial work platform equipment.

Benefits

Compensation ranges from $36.31 to $42.72 CAD hourly, depending on collective bargaining status, geographic location, market rates, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications. The position will not be paid less than minimum wage. • Low‑level mechanical repairs to kitchen equipment (excluding specialized equipment such as microwaves).
